Unit 1 M3

                                                                        Unit 1 M3
Explain how an awareness of learning style can aid personal development.
Introduction
In this blog post i am going to explain to you how knowing about your learning style can aid you in developing your personal skills.

 Learning styles
Learning style I think that knowing your own personal learning style is going to better you knowing this doesn't mean it is the only way you can learn or it is like a religious order that you have to follow. Knowing you learning style will be very handy for you as you can look at this and see which areas need development,  for instance if you learned easily doing things hands on so if you are a kinesthetic learner and you struggle learning within a group you could do some group activities in your spare time by joining a sports team where communication is key.

Here are some learning styles, it is best to find out your strengths and weaknesses in learning as it will help you for the future.
  • Visual (spatial). You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding.
  • Aural (auditory-musical). You prefer using sound and music.
  • Verbal (linguistic). You prefer using words, both in speech and writing.
  • Physical (kinesthetic). You prefer using your body, hands and sense of touch.
  • Logical (mathematical). You prefer using logic, reasoning and systems.
  • Social (interpersonal). You prefer to learn in groups or with other people.
  • Solitary (intrapersonal). You prefer to work alone and use self-study.

Below are my results from a test
The test results a I've display how I learn now that I know this I can see the best way for me to learn and what else I can improve in, knowing this now lets me see what needs to be improved on because if I have an average in each learning style it will help me in my future career because in the job I want I may have to learn differently in the workplace.

Unit 1 M1

Explain mechanisms that can reduce the impact of communication barriers
General communication skills
Language
Everyday society is diverse and people speak different and have different regional dialect.
To overcome language barriers d to make it easier to understand people the requirement is to speak more slowly so that people can understand and not use short form or slang words. These barriers can be reduced by using online apps like translators which google host for free. Also getting another ember of the group form the same culture could help you translate it to make it easier for others in the group.

Disability
There are a lot of disabilities that face everyone very day in the society as we know it, disabilities vary from hearing impairments to sight impairments. There are ways to reduce the barrier of communication with the use of signers what signers do is translate words into sign language using hand movements and facial expressions. Braille is used for the visually impaired people in model day society Braille is a communication where the information is raised so that the visually impaired feel to find out information.

Tone of voice
This is to do with talking clearly and not being monotone voiced and using pitch to create interest.
Pre planning on what you are going to say or discuss will prevent poor communication and references which can not be understood.

Interpersonal skills

Body language
When presenting to a group it is best to stand up and use expressions hand gestures to show what you are speaking about. If you were to be sat down explaining something you wouldn't show any expression and gestures would be limited so to overcome this you would best be doing a practise at home of the presentation and use the correct body language to show you are open to questions.

Back ground noise
Back ground noises effect all of us when we do anything, overcoming this is going to be hard but to do this you would need to ask everyone to switch off phones, not to talk during the presentation and if they need to speak ask at the end of the presentation. Learn to look at your audience this way keeping  the eye contact will help you block out noises in the background.

Low self esteem
Low self esteem occurs with a lack of confidence or an inability to communicate with other people this could be caused by shyness or introvert to overcome this you could go around ask a few people to answer questions. If you had a couple of people I a group activity not saying or constituting to anything you could get them to speak questions out to boost their confidence and self esteem. Planning what you are going to say will help you boost self esteem.

Written communication

Spelling and grammar
Spelling and grammar in a presentation is vita as information will be displayed on the board and if you have not spelled things correctly and the information is displayed you will look unprofessional.
Overcoming this would be checking the work you have done this is called proof reading this prevents errors you may not have seen.

Language used
Language used is important as if you had typed up a letter to someone you wouldn't want to use swear words or slang as it shows unprofessionalism in the person who is writing the letter.
Using simpler words to prevent over complication and helps with readability to the recipient will make it easier.

Unit 1 P4 task C

Task 1C-P4
Create a short review document which describes the ways in which you have demonstrated a range of effective interpersonal skills so far during the course. These could be during group work, activities or presentations (including the one you have just done)

You may use your observations to help you. These are some of the things that you will be observed on no which you can talk about inn your review:
Format of your presentation
Language used and terminology
Accuracy of information
Use media/animation
Body language
Eye contact
Dealing with questions

What personal skills I have used.
The personal skills I have used inn previous task such as unit 31 P2 animation the skills I used is the use of media how I used this is in the blog post for each individual section in which I had to describe how animation is used I certain cases I put a video on and described what the video is trying to make you do basically in promoting.

Language and terminology a good example of this is the piece of work I did for unit 31 P1 as the assignment asked me to explain what animation was, the different types of animation, the different animation techniques and traditional animation. In these different section I had to use the correct terminology and language to pass the assignment, also in unit 40 language and terminology was the main key part of my assignment brief without the language and use of terminology to gain above the pass criteria.

For body the language skill I used this in my unit 1 presentation when I talked about using the email service known as office 365 in this parent action body language was key to present my self well in this presentation this was not the only interpersonal skill I had used doing my presentation the accuracy of my information was key as if my information was wrong then my presentation was not worth listening too, using eye contact was key as the point of a presentation is. To show what you know and not to stare at your note cards.

Dealing with questions, I dealt with questions in my presentation for unit 1 presentation on using the email service in office365. At the end of the presentation the students and the assessor had the change to ask question about my presentation this would therefore test my terminology and language.

Teamwork I used the skill in unit 31 when our tutor played a YouTube video we split up into small groups to count how many film clips and film quotes were played in this video, also we used teamwork in unit when we were installing components in the computer this teamwork was for one person to install the parts and the other to take picture evidence both people did this in an orientation.

I used the interpersonal skill known as confidence this is used through all my units and submissions and tasks as you need to have confidence in submitting your work and having confidence to speak out in class and answer question that are to test us confidence is used all day everyday.

Unit 1 P3

Task 3
P3- Discuss potential barriers to effective communication

Barriers
Overcoming barriers is very helpful  towards you in life for example, if you deliver a presentation and many of the participants were to talk and not face you,  moving around or be from a different culture make the presentation so that the culture issues had been solved such as putting translation where possible or you do some research on their culture and maybe style your board meeting around this.

Talking The people who talk throughout your presentation are ignorant and have no morals, if they cannot sit still for a small amount of time without speaking, all you would have to do is ignore the fact that they are talking or get them involved in your presentation, this way you have their full attention as they will be stood up at the front, this is not to make them feel bad its to make sure that they listen or mention their name in your presentation or maybe ask them a question to see whether they know what they are on about.

Ignorance Someone with their back turned to you is very offensive, when delivering a presentation this shows that they have no interest in what you have to say in your presentation all you have to do is ignore them, someone else in the room will pick this up at some point and probably have a word with them about it and face a consequence they may they may not depends on the situation or the importance to the presentation.

Background noises
Overcoming the background noises such as an ambulance is hard but doable, a way to help yourself when this occurs is to concentrate on looking at your audience. Concentrating and looking at them whilst speaking directly to them will help you become better at delivering presentations for an example.

Diverse Audience
This is hard to solve in general for example having an audience all from different cultures you would have to present a presentation in  format that they would understand such as speaking clearly and slowly to help them understand.

Over complicating your sentences
Using complex words in a diverse audience will not help you deliver what information you are trying to pass on to your audience. With the use of emphasis and clear speaking with the use of smaller words.

Unit 1 Task 2-Explain the principle of effective communication.

Unit 1 Task 2-Explain the principle of effective communication.

General skills:

Accuracy
Accuracy this is key when delivering presentation's, as the audience that you are presenting to needs to know that you know what you are on about. Accuracy on the topic is very important because if you make it up and have questions asked you will end up tripping over yourself and being caught out for invalid information.

Question and Answer
Interpersonal skills
Question and answer when at the end of a presentation or during asking questions make sure that the questions you ask are ones that yourself can answer from the information delivered to your audience other wise when questions are asked and you don't have the answer you will look very unprofessional.

Cultural differences
Speaking clearly in different areas such as Somerset, speaking in a Liverpool accent in a culture that is southern  it would be a harder to understand the speakers also different languages it may be harder in some cases for some people who are from out side the UK who have not a very good understanding of English may struggle to it is important to be clear and understandable.

Interpersonal skills

Methods
Having your own way of doing tasks is known as a method, so how you approach to deliver an interview or a presentation for a board meeting all of this would be delivered in a way that suits you. Having your own way will make you unique and stand out instead of just reading what is on your cards or what is displayed directly on the screen you could interact with the audience this would only be needed in the correct circumstances.

Barriers
Say you were delivering a presentation and someone has their back turned to you that would be a barrier a way of overcoming this were to be not to even look at what they are doing just do not even look near them that way you are not being distracted by them  and they can not make you feel angry inside because they are being ignorant also another barrier would be cultural if you were delivering a presentation and some of the staff members did not understand exactly what you are saying it would be handy to either put up a translation of the sentences or give them a separate sheet in their language.

Types of question
Having the correct types of questions to either ask or be asked is key as if you deliver a presentation on a new drink to be released you would want to be asked question that relate to that presentation this means practicing maybe or writing down a few questions that you would think would be asked.

Written communication skills:

Spelling and grammar
Spelling and grammar is key when producing content simply because if you have spelling errors it could cost you a grade at school or an important job promotion. If the reader finds spelling errors on the first sentence immediately they will want to stop reading it because why would you read something with spelling error's. In word or on blogger when a word is not correct a red line will come up telling you to check that word, a green line comes up for sentences mainly or if there is not a space in-between a comma and a word.

Proofreading
This is a good habit to get into because if you read the work and it makes no sense to you then why send it to your boss or teacher just to do it again well there is no point all you have to do is read aloud what you have said and this will point out missing commas full-stops maybe even rhetorical question who knows you wrote it but proof reading is very crucial when writing an essay or an assignment anything that involves you writing should be proofread.

‘smileys’ or emoticons
‘smileys’ or emoticons these are only to be used when outside of the work place as you will look unprofessional if you write an email to your boss explaining a complaint or something and then put a smiley face its misleading is it a joke or an actual complaint also using them at the right time helps people out allot. ‘smileys’ or emoticons should be used when out of work as these are mainly used in text messaging or social networking such as Facebook.
